A Place For Inklings
Everything happens in its’ time.
I’ll admit this sounds kind of cheap and there are a ton of ways this could be interpreted or thought about. I’m coming from recognizing how often we get inklings before we realize what those inklings could mean in our lives. This is the point. We might feel inspired or drawn towards something without knowing why. The surrender to this curiosity causes us to pay attention in a way we weren’t before. The fruition of such inklings could come in years or even just days. We don’t know until we know. It’s really quite amazing when we find out why we were seemingly drawn to something. We might even feel changed. Not just from the kind of ecstasy of the moment, but the satisfaction that was only possible because of our dedication and patience for the process.
Every great story is great because it brings us along. If it doesn’t, it isn’t great. We know we always have the choice to look away, but the great stories not only captivate our attention but fully bring us in. We know what it’s like when a chapter ends or the credits begin to roll on a screen. We realize time has just gone by and with it all of our concerns, worries, and usual mental chatter. We were just fully present with what was before us.
It could be a star in a night sky or the tantalizing myths that tell of other worlds and possible treasures…or even just a feeling aroused by the thought of something that might exist, that kindles the flame within us. The “lucky ones” are not lucky. These are the adventures that realize the possibilities of the human spirit. They wake up to the weave of realities and learn to be greater weavers themselves. The rush of ecstasy is not what they pursue, yet they know it can appear at any moment. They love. They come to enjoy (in their own way) the valleys/trenches/hells because they have realized these too are full of opportunity. They may be called many things in their times, but they are often only known later as revolutionaries.
“Everything happens in its’ time” is more easily comprehended when we’ve been walking for quite some time with a heart full of hope while our circumstances are helping to shape us…and then all of a sudden many things we’ve (even just vaguely) held in our hearts begin to present to us in everyday life. We resonate and thus recognize, while we realize we’re now prepared/capable to meet these things where they are at too. This is not about “having”, but about what we can realize by now being able to relate to these things. In fact, we know it has been this hands-off approach that has helped us cultivate greater openness and receptivity.
It could be said that life is a time of preparation as well as culmination. We are learning and playing, and they both inform the quality and results of the other. So many books and people talk about being present for our lives. Being present is a shorter way of explaining this. It can be the work we are always working on.
What does surrender to the unknown look like for you as you begin your next chapter? You might recognize the beginning of a new chapter. You don’t have to know how it’s all going to work out. Follow the freedom of flight. Your wings are always with you.
