Results. We all want them, but do we give the focus and time required to realize our vision? For a lot of us, just thinking about giving consistent focus and energy to something for a few months seems daunting.
We don’t like feeling uncomfortable…duh. We want things to change as soon as possible. From our current (and limited perspective), we think having the next best opportunity we are imagining might relieve the hum of dissatisfaction we still feel.
A lot can change in a few years if we stay focused and flexible. We might even feel like quite a different person. If we keep at it, a few more years may go by and we might feel like we only just laid some kind of foundation for what we are beginning today. If we stay fairly balanced and curious, I think this feeling might recur throughout our life.
As unconventional as it might seem, I would say wherever you are right now is the place that holds the most potential. If we can learn how to relate more with what is most immediate of our experience, we can learn and grow a lot.
No one is helping anyone by feeding their habit of avoiding what’s really going on. This comes out through all kinds of “spiritualized” versions of capitalism. It is easy to jump into another thing, but more beneficial to evaluate and understand where you are coming from. We need a point of reference. Within this foundation is the treasure you’re actually seeking.
If our goal is to build ourself, our values and resources must be directed to this end.
What is really going on within your world as it is? Whatever you need to move forward in an empowered way exists right now, you only must look a little deeper. Again, I would ask the question I asked in a recent blog post, “What are you circumstances telling you about you?”.
We are obsessed with our ability to cause change, but quite unaware of what kind of change we truly want. We try to cover up and run from the fright and sadness around our lack of self-understanding. We do not want to admit this to ourself. We have worked so hard to create something we tell ourselves is predictable…even if it is suffocating.
To me, Spiritual doesn’t mean a Bible, a Yoga mat, a crystal, a tarot deck, or even this writing.
How might we define “Spiritual”? Well, I feel like many books could be and have been written trying to do just that. Maybe it’s a word that tries to describe a power, approach, potential, or process. It could be talking about you. I think it is a word that attempts to embody a concept that is not so much grasped as it is lived.
Getting better is an investment. It starts with being honest with yourself. Getting better is not an exterior-to-interior process (it is not three clicks and one day away on Amazon), it is an interior process that becomes externalized. We learn and grow through interaction and relationship…not acquiring. Things can support our spiritual path, but they can’t replace it.
What kind of results do you want to see in your life? Are you willing to understand yourself to realize them?
The results and life you desire arrive through you.
